Love has an expiration

There seems to be an expiration date on love.

A point where the dam breaks and all your feelings pour out into the city where love resides and washes it away like all the tears that once streamed down your cheeks.

There seems to be an expiration date on love.

A moment where all you knew is shattered just like the mirror you threw your fist into in a fit of rage and frustration.

An expiration date you didn’t see printed so finely on your heart when love first took its hold.

So much curdled love and rotten trust filling you with disgust and upsetting your stomach.

Burning your eyes, stinging your throat, and stuffing your nose.

There seems to be an expiration on the thing you once thought was eternal and unyielding.

An expiration date that was stamped on your heart the moment doubt crept into your thoughts.

Love crumbles like stale cookies and loses its crunch like chips left out too long.

Love has an expiration date.

It expires when you realize it’s only as strong as the bond you choose to keep.

It expires when that bond falters, weakens, chooses to stray.

Love has an expiration date, and the longer you try to keep it past that the sicker you’ll become.
